36th Annual Southern Scholastic Chess Tournament

Our tournaments and events are open to all youth from Pre-K through 12th grade! Whether you're homeschooled or attend a public, private, or parochial school, you’re welcome to join us—no matter where you're from in the USA.

REGISTRATION
Online registration is preferred; registration and payment via Paypal (credit
card or bank account) will be accepted through posted deadlines. Registration on
site is between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. on the date of the tournament.
Registration after 8:45 a.m. will result in a 1st round bye. Cash, credit card,
and checks accepted.

- Grades are as of January 1
- Sections may be combined at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

- 9:00 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m.

* Free entry is valid only for the 2026 NC or 2026 SC State Scholastic Chess
Tournament, as listed above.
* Maximum reimbursement value for NC is $70; player must be registered by
January 10, 2026 (prices may increase after this date; CMSCA will not reimburse
above $70).
* Maximum reimbursement value for SC is $45; player must be registered by March
14, 2026 (prices may increase after this date; CMSCA will not reimburse above
$45).
* To receive reimbursement, the player must (1) be one of the Top 3 winners in
their section, (2) register for, and (3) fully participate in the selected 2026
NC or SC State Scholastic Chess Tournament.
* No cash value. No substitutions. Not transferable. No credit toward any other
event, year, or individual.
* One free-entry reimbursement per player.
* CMSCA is not responsible for any changes, cancellations, or policies of the NC
or SC State Scholastic Chess Tournaments and has no obligation to provide any
benefit beyond the limits stated above.
* CMSCA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to interpret these rules,
verify eligibility, and modify or discontinue this offer at any time, including
in cases of suspected error, fraud, or misuse.
* If you are registering from another state besides NC or SC and would like us
to consider including your state in future offers, email us at president@cmsca.org (no guarantee of
eligibility or reimbursement is made).
* Nothing on this page is intended as legal advice; participants are responsible
for understanding all tournament and reimbursement rules.
BYE REQUESTS:
One half-point bye is allowed, except in the last round. Registration after 8:45
a.m. uses this bye for round one. We must be notified in advance of byes. Byes
will be posted for pre-registrations on the web and on the wall charts after
each round; correction requests are the responsibility of the player.
OTHER INFORMATION:
This tournament is open to all players 21 years old and younger enrolled through
12th Grade or equivalent if homeschooled. All
participants must have a USCF membership valid for the duration of the
tournament. Membership can be purchased at the tournament. For information on

of the United States Chess Federation ("USCF") and a USCF Member
ID.
