ROUND TIMES:

K-12, K-12 U1300, K-8, K-8 U1000: Saturday, 8:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, 8:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m.

K-5, K-3 and K-1: Saturday, 8:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m.; Sunday, 8:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m.

Blitz: Friday, 7:00 p.m.

Bughouse: Saturday, 8:00 p.m.

TIME CONTROLS: K-12, K-12 U1300, K-8, K-8 U1000: G90.

K-5, K-3, K-1: G60.
PRIZES:

1. K-12 CHAMPIONSHIP: Overall Winner of K-12 Championship holds Title of 2011 North Carolina Scholastic Chess Champion, $1500 Cash Scholarship, and Partial Expenses to the Denker Tournament of High School Champions. Trophies to top 10 Individuals, top 3 Teams.

2. K-12 UNDER 1300: Top 15 Individuals, Top 3 Teams.

3. K-8 CHAMPIONSHIP: Top 10 Individuals, Top 3 Teams.

4. K-8 UNDER 1000: Top 20 Individuals, Top 5 Teams.

5. K-5 CHAMPIONSHIP: Top 20 Individuals, Top 10 Teams.

6. K-3 CHAMPIONSHIP: Top 20 Individuals, Top 10 Teams.

7. K-1 CHAMPIONSHIP: Top 10 Individuals, Top 5 Teams. All players in this section receive a chess medal.

8. Blitz Tournament: Top 5 Individuals in each section (K-12, K-8, K-8).

9. Bughouse Event: Top 3 Teams in each section (K-12, K-5).

BYES:

One half point bye per player is available if requested in advance. Onsite registration uses this bye in round 1. Byes may be requested or revoked up to one hour before the scheduled start of the round. No half point byes in the last round. Players missing a round without notifying the tournament director in advance will be forfeited one hour after the round start time and removed from the tournament.

TEAMS:

Minimum of 2 players In the same section to qualify as a team. Teams may have more than 4 players, but team scores are based on top four players. A team must be made up of players from the same school and in the same section. Home School teams can be made from players in the same home zip code. If at all possible, players from the same team will not be paired against each other.

RATINGS AND PAIRINGS:

USCF March rating supplement will be used. Notation is required for K-5 and above and is encouraged for all players. Accelerated pairings may be used in any section based on the number players. A section with more than 2N players, where N is the number of rounds for that section, will use accelerated pairings. For example, a five round section will use accelerated pairings if the section has more than 32 players (2 to the 5th power).

ELECTRONIC NOTATION DEVICES:

Players using electronic notation devices will be required to register their devices prior to the start of the first round. Players must also abide by the "move before notate" rule.

CHESS SETS AND CLOCKS:

Chess sets will be provided. Players should bring clocks labeled with their names on them.

PROGRAM ADS:

The official 2012 championship program booklet will go to press soon, and we need your ads and well wishes for your chess team! Chess clubs can purchase space for their clubs at a special discounted rate of $50 for a half page. Please view the Chess Clubs Form or contact Elena Salazar for more information.

Small businesses and anyone else can purchase ad space by contacting Lori Holcombe and referring to the Business Advertisers Form. Reserve the full color one-page spread for the back cover is $500, or purchase black and white spreads for $300 for a full page or $150 for a half-page. The deadline to submit your ads is February 29, 2011.

TEAM ROOMS:

Club sponsors and chess teachers: Please contact Shawn Miklaucic at 704-998-1457 to make your reservations for team rooms. You can send checks made out to CMSCA to: 7425 Harrisonwoods Place, Charlotte, NC 28270. Please include school name and contact information. There are only a few rooms available, approximately 450-650 square feet, available for Friday through Sunday for $300.



To register online, you must be a current member of the United States Chess Federation ("USCF"). Click here to look up your USCF ID and expiration date; or click here to purchase a new or renew your membership. Online registration and payment via Paypal (credit card or bank account) will be accepted through Thursday, March 15, 2012. After online registration is closed, registration must be completed on site and will result in a mandatory first round half point bye. The registration fees are below:

By February 3, 2012: $35.00
By March 1, 2012: $45.00
By March 15, 2012: $50.00
On Site: $60.00

Registration for the Blitz Tournament and Bughouse Event is on site only. Blitz registration is $15.00, Bughouse is $10 per team. Sign up and pay at the registration desk on Friday and Saturday.
