Third Annual Mountain Island Elementary
Invitational Chess Tournament

There will be two simultaneously occurring tournaments, with different formats.  Each player can choose to play in only one of the tournaments. 

One is an unrated team tournament open to elementary age students.  Sign up as an individual we will place you on a team, and each team will be placed in a quad. 

One is a USCF rated quad tournament (three games at G/30), open to any age, scholastic or adult.  Individual quads will be formed based on most recent ratings supplement.  Director will use best available information and judgment to place unrated players in the most appropriately competitive quad.

Registration and Entry Fee Collection 8:30 am. – 9:00 am. 

Anyone arriving after 9:00 will not play in the first round.  (1/2 point bye if in rated) 

Cost:                Team Tournament - $5 if registered by Fri., Jan. 18th   $10 at door.
                       
Rated Quad Tournament - $10 if registered by Fri., Jan. 18th.  $15 at door. 

Workshops: During the waiting period between close of registration and start of play,   there will be two chess workshops.  One will be designed for beginning level players, and one will be designed for more intermediate and advanced level players.  

Concessions:   There will be hot dogs, chips, drinks, and snacks available for purchase. 

Prizes:  All Participants will receive a participation ribbon. 

Team TournamentMedals for all members of winning teams in each quad.  Additionally, any unbeaten, untied player on a team that does not win the quad will receive a medal. 

 Rated QuadsMedals for all quad winners, including ties. 

 

Unrated Team Tournament 

Open to elementary (k-5) age students only.  Sign up as an individual, directors will form teams with the goal of making them as equal as possible.  Teams will be divided into quads and play a round against each of their three opponents.  Every effort will be made to give each student three competitive games. 

Round Times:  First round will start at approximately 9:45.  Each round thereafter will start as soon as the prior round is completed.  Final round should be finished before 1:00, with an awards ceremony to follow shortly thereafter.

Rated Quad Tournament 

Quads of four players, three games at G/30.  Director will use best available information and judgment to place unrated players into the most competitive quads.  Size of lowest rated quad may be adjusted to fit number of players in tournament.  Round times are 9:30, 10:45, and 12:00.  If all players in a quad are present and agree, it is acceptable to start a round early.  Award ceremonies with medals to all winners will start soon after completion of last round.

Annual USCF dues are $17 for children under 12, $19 for youth 13-15, $25 for young adults 16-24, $41 for adults 25-64, and $36 for seniors 65 and up.  A family membership for immediate family members living at the same address (including college students living away from home) is available for $64, or for the children only for $35 per family.
